MINISTRY FOCUS:

The Fellowship of Christian Counselors (FCC) exists to provide support, to encourage fellowship and to enhance education for Christian healing professionals and associates to help people develop Christian spiritual maturity.

Since 2004, when the initial planning committee met, the intent of was to offer an opportunity for Christian healing professionals to meet together, pray together, and learn together.  We recognized the challenges faced by others like ourselves, as well as the power we share through our relationship with Jesus Christ.  As we spoke with Christian counselors in the community, it became apparent that many others felt the need for support, as well.

PEOPLE SERVED:

The 2005 Membership Directory lists 28 members, including the five officers of the Board.  Four of the members are students. Females make up 19 of the members; and 9 are male.  The majority of the members live and work in the Fort Wayne area, though membership is not restricted to geographical boundaries.  The majority (67%) have masters (or higher) degrees in the counseling field, and many are licensed with the state, although the members represent a wide variety of specialty areas and settings.

Monthly meetings are attended by approximately 20-30 people.  Members invite co-workers and friends in the healing professions as guests.  Certificates for Continued Education Units are offered only to those with paid memberships; but anyone in the healing professions is welcome to attend the educational meetings.

In January 2005, FCC sponsored an all day conference called "Integrating Christian Faith and Counseling.”   The keynote speakers were:  Neil T. Anderson, PhD, D.Min.; Judith E. King, MSW, ACSW; and the late Stephen King, MD.   The conference took place at Taylor University Fort Wayne, and approximately 95 people attended, including 13 volunteers.  The conference evaluations reflected positive responses.  The evening prior to the conference, a free community presentation was offered at First Missionary Church.   Approximately 75 attended that event.  We are currently planning to bring Dr. Siang Yang Tan in March 2007 for the next conference.
